How to use 45 degree angle wire cutter

How to make a slab mug:

  1. Wedge clay
  2. Cut rectangle evenly until bump and rolled
  3. Set Slab roller to 3/8" on both sides
  4. Roll slab on slab table- show how 2 people can roll at same time
  5. Show how texture can be rolled into slab (work on canvas!!)
  6. Select tube, cover with one layer of paper towel
  7. Cut one end square; trim top and bottom of long side of rectangle
  8. Roll clay around tube to find end, then trim straight
  9. Stand up clay on remaining slab and trace bottom circle
  10. Score and slip bottom of cylinder and edge of traced circle
  11. Press together and trim clean around cylinder
  12. Design and add handle (save for later- 2nd class?)
  13. Carve or add clay for interesting texture/decoration (save for later- 2nd class?)

Before placing your mug on the to be fired shelf, did you consider the following . . . . .

Slip and scored properly using jagged stainless steel tool or kneedle tool.  Make the marks deep and visible.

Inside and outside of clay wall should be well blended and seamless.

Rim thinned out and rounded.

Handle should be slip and scored and physically blended into the mug form

Foot- slabbed or coiled geometric shape on bottom of mug- slip n score

Initials or symbol clearly marked on the bottom of piece with the class block.
